Please suggest a good voice chatting software

Asked by chintalvaady

Hi,

I`m looking for a good software like "G TALK" which will help me to have voice chat with my friends and relatives.I thought of using EKIGA,But most of friends and relatives are windows users and dont have ekiga or a a SIP account.I tried to install Skype but their website says that the working version of skype is only for ubuntu users of 7.04--8.X editions.I have installed ubuntu 9.04 and i don't think skype will work on my computer.Pidgin works well for me,But it only lets me to do text chat,I prefer voice chat more than texting. So pls suggest a good software that will work on my ubuntu 9.04 computer and windows computers of my friends and relatives.

I'm using Skype 2.0.0.72 with 9.04 and both audio and video chat still work. Admittedly, I had it working on 8.04 before I upgraded so I don't know how a new installation would go.

HI :)

Please try searching through synaptic package manager rather than downloading random stuff from random websites. I am sure that is one of the main reasons viruses spread so fast in the Windows world. On the top taskbar please click on

System - Administration - Synaptic

Either search tool should help but i tend to prefer the "Search" button. Note that whichever package/program you use it should be able to use a format that can be used on other platforms.

Anyway, good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Empathy works fine in Ubuntu with a Gmail account.

The windows users can use the Gmail audio/video chat plugins.
