keyboard locked

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Tried to update latest ubuntu, it stopped and locked, then tried to shut down computer, now keyboard is locked, nothing can be typed, ctrl/alt/delete does nothing...

also, since it's a laptop, I can't just unplug it.

Not a documentation problem, this is a troubleshooting question.

I assume you have this figured out by now, but for future reference: If a laptop freezes up and doesn't respond to mouse/keyboard input, you can cut the power by disconnecting the power cable and removing the battery.
