Is Ubuntu suitable for beginners ?

Iam a newbie and would like to know if Ubuntu is the right choice for me. I am currently using Microsoft XP Professional. My requirements are basic, surfing for research, office, Skype and world news. The idea/translation of Ubuntu appeals to me very much. Dobbas

Yes it is! In this new era linux/ubuntu has become very user friendly and you will not have a problem. The best is No viruses and a lot of free software! For your requirements you say above its perfect! Be aware though that if you want to play games you should NOT use linux. And if something doesnt work out of the box dont get dissapointed quickly. Make your question to the ubuntu guru's or search the web and you will find your answer.( About office you have in ubuntu Open Office,for skype you download version for linux.Be carefull to choose/buy a web camera thats supported from ubuntu.)

I suppose yes. The interface logic is pretty like the one you now in Windows.
Nd you can try it without any changes on your computer running it from a bootable disk - the so called Live CD. Go to ubuntu.com and find there brief or not so brief descriptions, dounload an .iso file for making the LiveCD at your own or order a free LiveCD.
