How I can change disk cache buffer size?

Asked by Anatoly

In my laptop I have 2GB memory. Could I Set at least 1GB to caching all except /home, with agressive prefetching and lazy flushing? Hope this help do my Ubuntu much faster.

May be anybody know alternative solution except kernel support for this?

The ram diskcache will change as needed. The kernel handles this for you, it also handles freeing unused RAM. Microsoft OSes do not do this so well.

I can recommend these steps:

Be aware of hdparm, you can get extra speed tweaking the drive but if you push too far it can damage the drive physically

Can you help with this problem?
