have wine prog. and windows cd rom for cell phone but cant get connection from pc to phone please help

Asked by tiffany

I have the wine prog. and an LG TU720 phone w/ cd-rom (for windows) I open up the wine configuration app. and put in the cd. the logo pops up and other info. but when I plug the phone into the usb cord it says mass storage. I checked the connection on the phone and I tried 3 different connections (my lg ks360 connects instantly, mine connect under mass storage) so I think its the right connection for the phone. So Im guessing the connection that is missing is somewhere in wine configuration. Maybe another app I need? after connection with the usb cord the phone says "charging". I believe the phone is missing some information that the computer is not sending??? I don't know what to do at this point, please help so I can get these ringtones for my daughter totally having a brain melt down...trying to download ringtones and wallpapers directly to her phone from pc :)

Hi Tiffany,

Sorry no-one's got back to you about this already. It seems that there aren't so many people spending so much time answering questions in here this week so we are focussing on just getting basics working for people to bring more people into the community.

You might have more luck at
http://www.linuxquestions.org
which is a more general linux, rather than Ubuntu-specific, forum and it tends to keep questions open for longer so hopefully you'll find more people give an answer although it might take them longer.

Also this page might help you find some other good places to ask about this
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Signpost/Questions#help

Perhaps re-posting this question in here early next week might get some decent responses
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion

Sorry this isn't an area of expertise for me either, to the point where i wouldn't even try to change my ring-tone! lol
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Have you ever just tried to connect the phone with an USB-cable... without that CD?

Brilliant, yes the Cd is made for Windows, not linux and so it might be just that totally confusing the issue. Most stuff just works in Ubuntu without needing installation disks and sometimes even when that doesn't work some pop-up box will appear asking if you want to download an appropriate codec or something

Nice one Midnight :)))

Can you help with this problem?
