PulseAudio is crackly in Skype and no other options work

Asked by Broc Giddens

I just moved up to Ubuntu 9.10 koala. Previously my built in mic did not work but now it works beautifully but the output sound in Skype is crackly and unable to be made out. The output worked fine previously in 9.04 jaunty. Any suggesions would be appreciated!!

Well 9.10 is testing and isnt configured properly yet thats your problem. Is it crackly on all programs or just skype? On my computer it sounds fine and im on 9.10

I know its still in testing but I figured this kind of information would be useful to get out into the community. Just skype. Sound is fine when playing mp3s, in games, or in firefox.

It may just be a skype issue with pulse audio.

the weird thing is that with jaunty i couldn't get my mic to work, but output worked great. now in karmic my mic worked with no effort on my part and sound is screwy. i read on skype's help pages that you can remove pulse, but when i tried to do that it wanted to remove gnome too. You know anything i could try?
