Radeon HD 4850 Driver Issue

Asked by Dsrodrique21

i'm a bit of a newbie to Linux, but just got Ubuntu 9.04 recently, have been slowly trying to get everything up and running and my graphics card (radeon HD 4850) was next on the list. At first it couldn't seem to find the directory, after browsing and doing some research i've got it launching... but it keeps failing to extract.

I have the driver renamed to ati.run

nikk@nikk-desktop:~$ sudo sh ./ati.run
Created directory fglrx-install.NwmWXY
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing ATI Proprietary Linux Driver-8.62..............
..................................
......
...............................Extraction failed.
.Signal caught, cleaning up

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

It seems the file you downloaded is incomplete.

However, did you read the instructions at:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI ?

Ubuntu contains binary drivers for ATI, and it is easier if you install these drivers than installing the drivers from the ATI website.

Can you help with this problem?
