Un-Installing Ubuntu WUbi Installation

I am trying to recover my Ubuntu-8.10 Wubi Install on a Window Vista machine. I am attempting to uninstall and to reinstall, then use my old C:\Ubuntu directory. I really need my files, e-mail and web favorites from my existing install. I get an error on my uninstall, Attempting to delete: C:\ Windows\System32\bcdedit.exe /delete, System cannot find the file specified.

This file is not in this directory. I also have the log file that contains additional details.

Can anyone point me in a direction. I am desperate to get my system back.

By the Way i suggest you to install Ubuntu NOT using Wubi.

If you have installed Ubuntu via Wubi please uninstall it read http://wubi-installer.org/faq.php

Installing Ubuntu using Wubi make Ubuntu less robust and all problems that you will have to Windows can be affect your Ubuntu partition file.

I strongly suggest you to install Ubuntu+Windows in dual mode creating a real Ubuntu ext3 or ext4 partition.
In this mode you can use Ubuntu and Windows ad usual and then using installed Ubuntu you can save or repair damaged (due viruses or other issue) Windows partitions data.

If I install Ubuntu in its separate partitions can I use my install files from my current Wubi installation? I need to recover this version. Dale

I am very disappointed and concerned that I could not get sufficient help to resolve my problem. The help provided Marco was only the documentation that I had already read several time that did not address my issue. (Thanks Marco for attempting to help). I did follow Marco's suggestion and did post my question on the Wubi site, but no replies there.

I have lost my Ubuntu system twice at this point along with some very valuable data. I would appreciate it if someone can supply a better method to resolve issues and provide better training on Ubuntu. I like the system, but I cannot tolerate looisng my system form time to time.

I should have stated that I just reformatted my entire hard drive and installed the latest Jaunty Jackalope from a CD and dropped Windows. I can now not communicate with my cell phone.
