system won't suspend on lid close

Asked by jkbc

When I close the lid on my laptop (Acer Aspire One) it doesn't suspend -- simply turns off the screen.

I expect this to get closed quickly, as I have zero technical knowledge and can't tell you what package it was found in.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Thank you, are you running, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or Xubuntu?

I will take a stab that you are using Ubuntu. If so,

On your tool bar select, System > Preferences > Power Management.

Within that menu you will see 3 tabs, On AC Power, On Battery Power and General. The first 2 will contain a drop down menu called "When laptop lid is closed: "

This will show you the options you have for when the lid it closed.

Those dropdowns were set to suspend by default. Changing them to any other option has no effect on the lid closing.

Ah, and adding on from before: using Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

Since this is for UNR, I'm going to reopen the bug.

I'll back up this bug. I have an Acer Aspire One D250. Suspend works from Fn-F4, or the menu, or anywhere else. When I had XP on it, suspend worked on closing the lid. I have the power management for closing the lid set to suspend, but it's like linux isn't getting the lid close event or something.

Is there some way to track when this event enters the OS?
