ssh is a secure and encrypted connection. Samba is not, but it is a lot easier to use for people who are new to linux. I personally have not used samba myself and use scp. Look here for more information http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/system_administration_books/ubuntu_starter_guide/ch07s03.html#id2466543.

I agree with Mylo, ssh could be a nice solution

If you prefer the samba sharing (it has the added value to be used even from a windows pc) you could try the nautilus share add-on
pick a computer and in a terminal type:

sudo apt-get nautilus-share

and answer Y if it asks to install other packages
once you have installed it, right click on the folder you want to share and choose "sharing options"

on the second computer:
menu -> Places -> Network

Browse the network: you should see the first pc and its shared folders

just a note: there are many ways to share stuff between two linux pcs. if you like to learn look for: nfs, ftp

Can you help with this problem?
