is a net connection a must while installing softwares on ubuntu ?

i downloaded some softwares from the net & written them down on a cd in a cafe earlier. 2day i installed ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop bt i don't have a net connection. how can i install those softwares from my aforesaid cd onto my laptop without a net connection ? plz reply soon.

You can install software from the install CD as well as using things like aptoncd and usb sticks to transfer deb files from a system with a web connection to one that doesnt. You will need to also satify dependancies if you start transferring deb files and it can get messy.

If you have the CD in your system, you can launch synaptic and tell it to use the CD as a repository. You can now install any app you wish that is available on the install CD

A web connection is advised to get updates but is by no means a must
