I'd imagine you can

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=554741

This simply says:

move the folder then use symbolic links to put fake folders (links) to the real data

Hi actionparsnip,

Please explain it how to do as I am new to Linux (beginer). This is first time I loaded Linux (Ubuntu) on my Laptop. I found it good & if I can use all what I am using IN MS XP, then I will switch fully to Linux.

Similar to XP, all your email/folders are stored with the .evolution folder inside your user profile. This IS a hidden folder (note the period before evolution to make it hidden).

Inside there will be a folder called 'mail' aptly enough.

However if you wish to create portable backups for moving your accounts/mail to another machine you should review the evolution documentation for the steps to do this properly.

Simply move the folder to another location, even on another partition or usb if you wish.

For example, If I move the .evolution folder to /media/external for storage. You can then symlink:

mv ~/.evolution /media/external; ln -s /media/external/.evolution ~/.evolution

You now have a symbolic link where there was once actual data. The link will handle the redirection of the data and the file system will handle itself. Evolution will continue to write to ~/.evolution but the real data is elsewhere.

Can you help with this problem?
