running installer as super-user

Asked by danny71

Hello there

I'm trying to install the ATI video card driver to Ubuntu 7.04, but after running the installer, I receive a message "you need to run this installer as the super-user".

Can you help me how to do this?

If you are typing a command line, prefix it with sudo. For example, if your command is "installer", type "sudo installer". The shell will prompt you to type in your password, and then the installer will be run as super-user.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question.

You need to use sudo <command>. Just use the command you use but put "sudo" in front of it. The password required is the password you use to login.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your quick answer.

It helped to run the installation program, but I cannot change the screen's resolution, so it remains as it was before.

Do you know how to get a driver for ATI Radeon X600 video card for Ubuntu 7.04?

You may need to change your xorg.conf for that.
If you paste here your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files we will tell you what to do.
I assume you have just installed the proprietary fglrx drivers?

After installing the driver, I needed to run aticonfig and this solved the problem!

Thank you very much.
