when start up and seleting system, I have two ubuntu options(acturally 4)

Asked by Julianchu

i only have ubuntu and ubuntu recovery mood two options (together with windows xp) weeks ago. but now something is going wrong,
I have another two ubuntu system option to select, but they are basicly the same, because I have just one ubuntu installed, the only difference seems to be that I can't open dvd or cd from the new appeared ubuntu system option!!(which I reported days ago)
everything goes normal in the older ubuntu option, but the default option now becomes the new troublesome one. I want to delete this option so that I can log in the normal working one.

I intended to use the ubuntu live cd to repartition my harddisk but failed, and later I used GParted live cd to finished it. did that resulted in the new troublesome ubuntu system option?

how can I delete that option?

Thanks for the question.

In the meantime, when you updated packages, a new kernel got installed and therefore you got two new menu entries for this (one normal and one safemode).

You can delete any menu entry by deleting it from the file

/boot/grub/menu.lst.

I hope this helps.
