More backgrounds and the possibility of different backgrounds for different Desktops.

Asked by DrOdal

Hello!

It's not a support request, it's more like an idea. I'm not very good in english and i'm not quite sure if this is the right place to send it but as I first started Ubuntu I got, of course, a first look of it (i hope u understand what i mean : ) ). I thought, Ok, lets configurate something. So I wanted to change the background. But what was that ? There have only been 2 or 3 different (I think it was only one in different resulutions) Backgrounds available. Also, unlike in KDE, I was only able to change ALL Backgrounds, but not different backgrounds for the different desktops (I mean these desktops u could switch, I think normally there are four of them).

Perhaps u could add some more Backgrounds, and the other thing, the possibility of having different backgrounds for different desktops might also be discussed^^ (Yeah, I know, I should talk to the People of the GNOME project, shouldn't I)

So, thanks so far and sorry for my bad english.

Greetings,
DrOdal

I think that this is a good idea, you could know in what desktop you are just seen the wallpaper withou need to look down to you bottom bar.
In first time i used Ubuntu i thought that you could change wallpaper this way too... mistake :)

Thanks for the Comment. I think that many people would like to change there background, this makes me feel like, how to say it correctly, it's my system. I hope u understand what I mean. I mean if u have just installed ubuntu (especially if u did it for the first time) u will think "ok, I'm will try some things...". I believe that it would have a very positive effect if u would have the possibility of choosing another background out of the box. There's no need for hundreds of different pictures I think, but just bring like 15 or so very different ones. For example: flowers, landscape, ubuntulogo, debian, famous painting(s)... .

And the other thing, different backgrounds for different desktops should also be possible, as I already said. I will write an email to the developpers of GNOME, let's see what they think.

Greetings,
DrOdal

I would like to see this feature implemented as well. The following is a link to a thread theat includes information relevant to this subject. In my opinion, the thread includes posts that give a pretty good overview of what needs to be done in order to implement this feature. I don't think there any examples of code in the thread, but the design requirements are outlined.
