extract and run scribus after downloading

Hi...
Help!
I am a "newbie" to linux and Ubuntu and "don't have a clue" as how to get Scribus 1.3.4 to run after downloading it. The extract process goes OK, but then I don't see any icon to run the application. What needs to be done?

There is no ubuntu package for that version.
You need to look at the README and INSTALL files provided with the tarball for instructions on how to use and install it.

Scribus is part of Ubuntu packages. The best way to install it is to go to the Applications menu > Add/Remove. Then type Scribus in the search box at the top, hit enter. Scribus should show up in the main pane: just tick the checkbox, and Apply.

This will install Scribus cleanly on your system, making sure it appears in the menus, and you will get automatic updates.
