What happens if you click System > Preferences > Mouse and if you make a double click on the light bulb described as To test your double-click settings ...?

Thanks for your response.
It appears that my keyboard is frozen as well, so I can't click on system....

I'm able to type ctrl, alt backspace and login with no mouse problems, until the main screen comes up and then locks

So it seems the problem is not only the mouse.

If you boot from LiveCD does the same happens?
You can also try the repairing options of the LiveCD.

Can you help with this problem?
