cannot become root in terminal when installing nvidia driver

Ubuntu 9.04, 2.6.28-13 kernel,intel 2.4ghz,1g mem,Gnome 2.26.1....attempting to install nvidia egforce6200 card...used sh Nvidia-Linux-x86-185.18.14-pkg1.run in terminal. System will not let me become root to install. I have restricted extras etc already installed. Suggestions? Thank you in advance M.W.Vonager

Did you add sudo command like "sudo sh Nvidia-Linux-x86-185.18.14-pkg1.run"
You can use sudo command to use a command as a root. By the way, you can also install nvidia driver via System--Administration--Hardware Drivers or via Synaptic Package Manager.

Additionally, if you need to run several commands as root you can use "sudo su" (without the quotes) at a terminal and it will bring up the root # prompt.

sudo su is worth avoiding because you might forget you are in as SuperUser and then all your permissions and stuff might get really confused. Also
