Jaunty amd64, 3Com 5610 fax modem needs driver

Asked by John Hagerman

USRobotics lists a linux driver for its' 5610 series modems, but it is .rpm. Alien will convert it to .deb, but not in amd64 systems.
Anybody worked out a solution? Modification to Alien so it will convert in amd64? Modification to driver already converted to .deb?
John

Most likely, you don't need to install a separate driver, but the driver is already included in the kernel (although I'm not sure it is in the standard configuration).
Can you post the output of (run in a terminal)
lspci
here (the parts about your modem).

Here's the requested info (note I have been using this modem for fax
with Ubuntu since Dapper, using the 3Com Red Hat driver adapted to deb
with Alien. This is my first rig in AMD64, and the adapted driver does
not work in it. Also, Alien on AMD64 refuses to convert the Red Hat
driver.)

Hey - solved my own problem - but I'm not exactly sure how.
Being a convert from Windows, it never occurred to me to try TTYS0 (the0!) in the efax settings - and that seems to be the only problem. Alien apparently converted the .rpm file and put it where I didn't look (and told me it couldn't convert the file!). I found the converted file by accident and installed it, but because I tried every TTYS EXCEPT TTYS0, it didn't work. Then I read the README and discovered it needed TTYS0 set in efax. Bingo!
I'm learning!
