where do i save stuff?

Asked by Ted LeBlond

in follow up to thyis issue i need to ask where do i save stuff?

do i save it to mnt? or hdb?

i swear i'm hating this more and more and the only reason i'm not popping in my windows disk is because i spent the last week trying to get this to work.

In opposite to windows, Linux (and so Ubuntu) provides only "directories". So your T-drive is now the directory "/mnt/hdb". You might compare that to a windows directory called "C:\MNT\HDB". Everything you put *inside* that directory is stored on your second drive. Everything you put outside this directory (especially in your home folder) is stored on the first drive.

You put your folders *inside* this directory. Just change to this directory (if you made a bookmark, just click on it). You'll see now a quite empty space to the right. Right click on the empty space and select "Create Folder". This is how it works.

If you need more help on Nautilus (It's the name for the file manager), just press "F1", it provides a quite acceptable help.

Please do not forget to mark this question "solved". Since we managed to access your drive and you received the information regarding DVD/Restricted formats, I'd kindly ask you to open a new question on any issues regarding the usage of Nautilus or things like that.

Dear Ted,

I am very sorry that you don't have the same positive experience with Ubuntu that the majority of users have. However, you might also understand that in a community of volunteers respect and positive interaction are even more important than in any other place.

As far as I have seen, for every of your questions, someone has really tried very hard to find a solution for you. It is your prerogative to reject the answer or looking for another one. However, if you are truly interested to get an answer, I would think that you have far better chances that someone will take the time to help you if you are respectful.

Therefore please close the questions for which you are not interested for an answer any more, and please only ask a particular question in one question thread. This will highly improve the chance that someone will put the effort into an answer for you.

I appreciate your co-operation.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Ted LeBlond for more information if necessary.
