error in attempted Fortran compilation:
/usr/bin/ld:crt1.o: no such file: no such file or directory.

web search shows this to be an essential file not found on whole computer or in synaptic package manager catalog.

system is x86_64_lnux-gnu /3.4.5
compiler is gcc 3.4.5 20050809

where is it? how do I get it?

You need to install the package libc6-dev
