evolution uninstalls gnome & gnome-desktop-environment

Asked by TSWMIN85

1) Ubuntu 9.04

I tried to uninstall some "gnome games," evolution, and abiword, but they all also uninstall GNOME and the GNOME DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT. I'd tried using terminal and only abiword uninstalled without affecting GNOME and the GNOME DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT.

I was able to reinstall GNOME, which in turn also installed the GNOME DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT, but all the programs come back.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. I just tried, but failed, to reproduce it on my machine. The step I took was to run (in a terminal) "sudo apt-get autoremove evolution abiword gnome-games" and then I examined the list of packages that would be removed. I did not see any indication that GNOME would be uninstalled.

Can you please elaborate on how exactly you ran in to the problem, as well as how you installed GNOME and those programs in the first place? Is this a standard installation from the CD distribution, or did you perhaps install GNOME manually at some earlier point? Thanks!

It's not the GNOME from the distribution CD, I did install it manually after
uninstalling EVOLUTION caused it to be uninstalled. when I tried the
uninstalls I tried them first in Synaptic Package Manager then in
terminal...

I commanded:

sudo apt-get remove (program name here.)

Here's an example:

jonathan@David:~$ sudo apt-get remove evolution
[sudo] password for jonathan:
Sorry, try again.
[sudo] password for jonathan:

Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  evolution evolution-exchange evolution-indicator evolution-plugins gnome
  gnome-desktop-environment

After this operation, 10.9MB disk space will be freed.

gnome-desktop is the about GNOME dialog and a library and your issue is not a bug
