Asked by jerrylamos

Upgraded to 2.6.31-1 from 2.6.30 on Compaq Presario 3.3 gHz Celeron with
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RC410 [Radeon Xpress 200]

Gnome gdm screen is vertical colored bars no usable desktop at all.

Tried nomodeset on the grub kernel line with no effect. KMS is being set since command line is small graphics font.

Xorg.0.log after failure

The failure reproduces every time. Command line is available so some other info could be obtained.
Is there anything else that would be useful or anything to try?
I tried booting in recovery and adding Driver "ati" to xorg.conf which didn't change the failure at all. Booting in recovery mode without quiet or splash did not change the failure.
Recovery mode "fix broken packages" runs O.K. however does not change the failure.

Thanks, Jerry
