Try installing "cheese" while your webcam is plugged in. It should draw in any drivers you need as dependencies. A kludge of a hack, not an elegant answer, sorry. This style of approach does often work tho, without needing expertise nor experience in the relevant area :) Go up to the top-taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

it asks for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one. Use either search tool, i preferr the search button, search for "cheese" and right click to select it for install. Also, while you're here, click on the "Mark all updates" before clicking on the "Apply" button. Hopefully that should fix it. Synaptic is very useful for many different problems, it's worth hunting around it's menu's to have a look at some of what it can do :)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

I think "cheese" only takes still pictures rather than video image but i haven't looked it up. As it's the standard package that so many people use i thought it worth trying purely to help fix a problem that you have already fixed.

Nicely solved by the way and thanks for posting the links to the answer back into here. It all helps build a better "Solved Answers Database" which helps the whole community :)

Thanks, congrats and regards from
Tom :)

Weird, err does the package you were using before work? Have you tried running through the Medibuntu worksheet to see if everything over there is fine?

Ya , tired medibuntu also , really don know where the error is ?
If it were to be the usb issue , lsusb would not have showed me the cam right ?

Hi :)

Have you been able to try the new Ubuntu 10.04 before it gets officially released?
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/testing/lucid/beta2
Trying it as a LiveCd or as an extra dual/multi-boot would be ideal. Developers and everyone are keen to try to iron out any problems before 10.04 gets officially released so you might find faster & more effective answers to your bug reports which would make 10.04 work better on your system for you

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)
