cannot play dvds

hi i am having major problems getting anything to play dvds
i have enabled the medibuntu repository and installed libdvdcss and libdvdcss2 and gstreamer , if i try totem it starts then shuts down , same thing with vlc, kaffiene does the best but only have sound no picture i get a message saying i need to install libdvdcss , i have already done this but it still says it needs it , also tried mplayer .
i think there may be some problem with ubuntu streaming from my dvd rom , it works ok on another machine and plays cds ok on this machine .
i am at a total loss as to what to do next can anyone help please.

Work through each step of the Medibuntu page again, sometimes it needs a 2nd attempt to properly work now

installing mplayer and libdvdcss2 usually does the trick so maybe just going to Synaptic Package Manager to "Fix broken packages" and "Mark all updates" before clicking on "Apply" might help?

have worked through it again still no luck ,i installed dragon player and every codec i could find in synaptic , totem still crashes , also vlc, xine has sound no pic , kaffiene has blue screen and sound no pic ,dragon player has a picture which sort os works a bit jerky no sound . still need help with this realy cannot understand the problem didnt have any problem on any of my othe machines this one just wont have it for some unknown reason , still need help please

still canot get dvds to play i am preaty sure all tghe codecs are installed but for some reason the dvds still wont play

Apart from adding the medibuntu stuff i really don't know what to do about this sort of thing and i'm the only one that gets to see this thread now the question is so old so please re-post.
