Hi,

When you say that you use username and password to connect to the Internet, which protocol/software to you use?

As far as I know, there is no username/password authentication with "Ethernet" (Network cable).

Anyhow, you should be able to configure different network configuration for different locations using "Network Settings".

Do get to that program, go to (in gnome) System->Administration->Network
There you will be able to modify your network using the graphical interface.
Also, you can save the settings so you can easily switch from home settings to campus settings let say.

Can you help with this problem?
