Reinstall Jaunty

Asked by Chris Z

I would like to do a clean reinstall of Jaunty, including a complete hard-drive reformat. I have burned the ISO image to a DVD-R, but cannot figure out how to get it launched from the disc - or how to correctly leverage the synaptic package manager - to make that happen. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Maybe you should look into your BIOS settings, to change the boot priority.

As soon as the pc starts you'll have to press F2 (usually it appears written below, something like "to enter bios press F2-or in some cases other keys") and you'll be into the bios settings.

Now search for the boot sequence and see if CD-DVD is below Hard Disk. If so you'll have to move CD-DVD on top (read the instructions that will appear on the screen on how to deal with it) so when you restart your pc it will boot from the cd.

Hope it helps, and be careful not to mistakenly change anything else you don't know in the bios or you could have problems.

Thanks but no luck. I'm on an HP Pavilion and it gives me the option to
press escape to change boot order. The only options that come up are the
current and older (not sure why they are still available) versions of the
kernel on the machine - no option to boot from disc...

Anyone have an other ideas?

I don't think you understand what Nicola was telling you.

You entered the GRUB boot menu which will only provide you with boot options in the MBR on the hard disk, not the CDROM.

You need to enter your BIOS settings and change the boot order so that it checks the CDROM first before the hard disk, otherwise you will not be able to boot from CDROM.

HTH,

Can you help with this problem?
