Bluetooth pairing fails (Feisty box with XP laptop)

Asked by Diana

I've been trying to get my Ubuntu box (Feisty) and my work WinXP laptop to transfer files to each other via bluetooth, using gnome-bluetooth on the Ubuntu box. (I don't have admin permissions to put my work laptop on my LAN :-( )

The two devices can see each other, but when I try to pair from XP I get 'The pairing was rejected by the remote device'. I've edited hcid.conf, so that security is set to 'auto' and the correct passkey is present in passkey=.

I'm initiating the pairing from the XP laptop because I don't know how to do this from the Ubuntu box.

TIA

Discovered I hadn't got bluez installed - hadn't realised that gnome-bluetooth didn't include it. Bluetooth Manager now showing on the status bar, and by making the ubuntu box visible and connectable I was able to do the pairing. File transfer now working perfectly.
