Ubuntu became Edubuntu

Asked by tagesmann

I installed some educational applications (games in fact) in Ubuntu 9.04 and a few days later when I rebooted my PC it booted into Edubuntu. My desktop shows (I assume) an Edubuntu wallpaper but shows my existing icons. The System pull down now has an About Ubuntu and About Edubuntu option. Can I change back to Ubuntu or has installing the educational applications left me with no choice?

Well you probably installed the ubuntu educational package that installs all of the edubuntu (Actually I think its called ubuntu educational edition now) Regular ubuntu is still there its just it changed the look as well as installing the packages. Try to remove the edubuntu usplash first and reinstall the ubuntu usplash.
I cant remember the name of the edubuntu package off hand I think its "debian-edu-artwork-usplash" So run:
sudo aptitude remove debian-edu-artwork-usplash
Then it should restore the original.
For the theme you can change that in the appearance editor. So just right click on the desktop select change desktop background and change the wallpaper and theme from there.

Hope that helps
Shane

Thanks Shane. I've managed to make it look like Ubuntu again.
