killing settings

Asked by Potterman210

so i'm selling my laptop, and i was wondering how i would go about killing settings like my username, so that when my buyer gets on, the start-up process of making their username and picking their settings start automatically.

also, does anyone have any recommendations on what type of laptop i should buy that would work very easily in the ubuntu 9.04?

You can use
oem-config-gtk
to make an installation "clean".

Many Notebooks are fully compatible... while some not. You should select any one you like and search for problems with that one and Linux/Ubuntu.

when i first installed ubuntu i had problems with some internet drivers that i had to find and download from another computer onto a disk and then put it back on to my ubuntu computer.
will entering "oem-config-gtk" delete these drivers?

I would use another route. Simply set up another user for your system and give them "Administration" rights (not "SuperUser/Root" rights tho) and then check that you can boot into this new user. I would probably give the new user a simple name like "user"

Ooops, i hadn't quite finished. Set up the new user by going up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - User&Groups

is right down at the very bottom. having made sure the new user belongs to all the same groups as your normal login name did then you could just delete your old user account and make sure the folder has also been deleted by going to a terminal console and typing in

cd /home
ls

where "ls" is a lower-case "LS" hopefully there should only be your new users folder in there now :)
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
