Unable to set SHMConfig to true

Asked by Vincen Collins

I recently upgraded and I am trying to get my touchpad working, in that effort I have been trying to get gsynaptics initialize and get SHMConfig set to true

I have tried about everything and nothing has worked so far. Here is what I have tried.

I have tried to add a /etc/hal/fdi/policy/shmconfig.fdi file like the instructions indicate here - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Sy...hpad#shmconfig

I have tried to edit the /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/11-x11-synaptics.fdi like the instructions indicate here - http://www.samlesher.com/ubuntu/enab...repid-ibex-810

Below is the module section of the xorg.conf, everything else relevant to the touchpad has been commented out with the following comment "# commented out by update-manager, HAL is now used"

Quote:
Section "Module"
Load "i2c"
Load "bitmap"
Load "ddc"
Load "extmod"
Load "freetype"
Load "glx"
Load "int10"
Load "type1"
Load "vbe"
Load "synaptics"
EndSection

Also the option in the mouse menu for touchpad does not show up either.

I also had a session setup to run syndaemon -d -i 1 to disable the touchpad while I was typing and that isn't working either. I get the following message - "Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?"

Any information and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's not done with the "xorg.conf" any more. You have to use "HAL" to enable now.

Just google around a bit and you will find the solution.
