9.04 Freezes at install menu

Asked by Alan C

As my new, N Series, Dell PC reboots with the 9.04 cd I burned, it freezes at the Unbuntu menu. Function keys or menu items have no response after they are pressed. "Install" selected and the i hear the drive begin to run but it does not begin an installation process. Any tips?

Would you please like to try an older version? From here f.e.:
http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/debian/ubuntu/iso/8.10/

Greetings

I did install 8.04 but it did not have appropriate drivers for my hardware so I could not connect to the interent, etc.. I also could not upgrade form there to 9.04. It seems to me that my combination of hardware requires me to run MS Vista, as much as I didn't want to.

So please try the 8.10 as I advised... we maybe can try to upgrade that one to 9.04 if any networks is working.

Just try out the 8.10-Live-CD and look if networking works in any way.

The original problem tracks with a Dell OptiPlex GX240 that I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 on; at the menu, the machine would freeze, no mouse, no keys would work. Following midnightflash's adivce, I downloaded and tried the 8.10 version, no problem, THEN I went to a German site and downloaded another copy of 9.04 and tried that with NO problem.

I suspect in my case either a bad download or a bad image from the download site. I wish I could advise where I downloaded the first copy from, but I did not keep track, except that it was in the US.

I downloaded 8.10 as you suggested, attempted to load to the new PC but ended up with the same error message as before. I have requested a MS Vista Cd to go with this Dell PC as it is seems to be the only option I have as of now.

To bad. But sometimes it is like this. What is the exactly model-number of that laptop?
