forgotten ubuntu password

Asked by jean

I'm trying to reset my ubuntu password. All instructions I can find say press ESC when booting to enter grub mode. This does not work on my machine (Dell mini 9). I can only get into BIOS. What am I doing wrong?

The GRUB timeout on the Dell mini 9 is set to 0. This makes it a bit more difficult to get into the Grub menu, but not impossible. Try the directions on the following webpage:

http://blogs.gnome.org/mneptok/2008/11/11/reset-your-password-with-recovery-mode-on-the-dell-mini-9-netbook/

It also had directions about reseting your password once you get into single-user (recovery) mode. I hope this helps.

Hi.
Thanks very much for this. It took me some time to hone my jedi skills to the required level, but it worked.
