Need help installing Ubuntu on dell inspiron 1601 notebook

Asked by asjk09

Ok, my issue is that I ended up with a really bad virus on my windows xp, as well as someone hacked my computer, so I ended up wiping my entire hard drive clean, even clean of the os. Well i began the installation of xp once again and decided against it without fully installing it. And I no longer have the product key or the other cd as well... I know, i have not been keeping track of my things very well. How can i erase the disk and begin anew with Ubuntu 9.04 netbook remix? Or is there a way to just restart the installation with the cd. Oh and i will need step by step instructions please, as i have never encountered this type of issue before.

If you're going to install only Ubuntu, insert the bootable ISO CD and boot the System. Choose Installation and follow the instructions.

Hope it helps.

Thats not the problem, we cannot get the current windows, which is halfway installed, off of it to install ubuntu.... Is there something we can use to just clean the hard drive?

In the ubuntu setup it offers the option to format the entire hard disk.

Can you help with this problem?
