unable to connect to wireless network

Asked by Lou Valente

I am using a LinkSys, model WRT160N, Wireless Router. Whenever I try to connect to the wireless network, it appears to be trying and then I get a message asking for the Password. Once I provide that it tries again, and then the password message again....

I have noticed in a couple of posts advising to run a config command. What application do I use for that? I have installed Ubuntu 9.04.

Thanks for your help.

Make sure that the wireless encryption settings for that particular wireless network are correct.

Thank you for your response.

That has been one of my questions. When I check the Connection properties I am not able to find where to provide the Encription Key that I have. When connecting for the first time on my wife's MacBook, I was asked for the Encription Key and password. The same thing for the laptop I have problems with using Windows XP Professional. But I could not find where to enter that with Ubuntu.

I failed to mention that this is an install on an Dell Inspiron 1545. I have a dual install with Ubuntu and Windows XP Professional.

I apologize for slow responses to any posts concerning this as I have to work it in between work and other obligations.

Well you should select one of the encryption techniques like WEP, WPA-PSK to the one which you have to connect to.
Right click on the network-manager-applet and edit connections.

I have done that. I entered the Password for the router under WPA which is how it was setup.

When I look at Edit Connections I don't see any place to enter the Encription Key; unless I am missing something or not understanding one of the entries in the Edit Connections page(s).

I'll look at that closer when I get a chance this evening or weekend.

Thanks again for your help.
