Hi,

In System/Administration/Users and Groups , make sure that your user and the root user are members of the following groups:

 pulse
 pulse-access
 pulse-rt

Then try this procedure:

1. copy-paste the following command into the Terminal:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

2. and add these lines to the end of the file:

# Keep snd-pcsp from being loaded as first soundcard
options snd-pcsp index=-2
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv5
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

3. Then navigate to System>Preferences>Sound and change everything to ALSA

4. reboot and retest sound

5. If sound still does not work, then replace hp-dv5 with one of the following 4 model options:

 STAC92HD71B*
   ref
   dell-m4-1
   dell-m4-2
   dell-m4-3

6. You will have to reboot and retest sound after every model option change to the alsa-base.conf file

Regards,

Mark

Hi Mark and thank you for answering....

I'm working on it and to be sure that I follow your instructions correctly I have one more question:

You say
Quote:
3. Then navigate to System>Preferences>Sound and change everything to ALSA
End Quote.

Under System>Preferences>Sound I have two options:
HDA ATI SB STAC92xx Analog (ALSA) and
HDA ATI HDMI ATI HDMI (ALSA)
for Devices:
Sound Events
Music and Movies
Audio Conferencing - Sound Playback

Which one do I have to use?

Regards
Cariboo

Hi,
Sorry for not recognizing the third option "ALSA - Advanced Linux Sound Architecture".
I changed all Devices to this and entered in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf "model=del-m4-2"
Issue solved...Thanks for the excellent support especially go to Mark R.
