Where to submit bugs in online documentation?

Asked by Till Ulen

I believe to have found a bug in the online documentation for Ubuntu 7.04 <https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/>. (The offending page is at <https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/installation-guide/>). I cannot check whether the same bug appears in the packaged version of the Installation Guide.

Where is the correct place to report that bug? Should it be submitted to <https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug> as usual? What package should this kind of bug be assigned to?

What's the bug about?

The architecture selection page of the Installation Guide is not user-friendly.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to the Advanced Topics page in Ubuntu 7.04 online documentation at <https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/advanced-topics/C/index.html>.
2. Click the "Installing Ubuntu via the alternate CD (choose your architecture)" link.

An unstyled webserver-generated page appears which contains a list of links to codenames of architectures (amd64, i386, ia64, and so on). That page has two shortcomings:

1. Manu users may not know what i386 and the like mean. Information on how to find out one's architecture should be added.

2. The page lacks any standard style, navigation and explanatory text present throughout Ubuntu website. This can make the user wonder why that page is special, without any good reason. The page design should be unified with other pages, and a short introductory text (like "<header>Ubuntu Installation Guide</header> <paragraph>Select your architecture:</paragraph>) should be added.

You should report this as a bug in the ubuntu-doc system:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-doc
