What happens when you use a blank xorg.conf? I have a nvidia 7300GT with a samsung 1600x1200 sreen and a thinkpad r61 notebook with a nvidia quadro nvs 140m and a 1680x1050 screen and both work just fine with the following xorg.conf:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        Monitor "Configured Monitor"
        Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Configured Video Device"
        Driver "nvidia"
EndSection

Can you help with this problem?
