can't run 3D shoot game XDoom Shoot'em Up after installation

Asked by Julianchu

Hi
after installing the 3D shoot game XDoom Shoot'em Up from Add/Remove Application, the installation went very good, but when I click the application from game menu, just nothing happens. I also installed another 3D shoot game, that one starts and runs very well.

can you open a terminal and run the game using its command, and check if there are any errors outputted, this would help.

Hi, I get this error output after I ran it in the terminal :

LxDoom v1.4.4 (http://lxdoom.linuxgames.com/)
Z_Init : Allocated 6016Kb zone memory
IWAD not found

Thanks for your question.

id software released the source code of Doom, but not the level files. So you need either a shareware wad file, or a commercial wad file to play. Just put them to /usr/share/games/doom.

If you don't own a copy of the original doom, you might want to install "freedoom" ("sudo apt-get install freedom" in terminal). It includes free community made doom levels. After that your lxdoom will start just fine.
