screensaver not working

none of my screen savers work !! in an old post i found that if i open another account and tried the screen saver and it worked i could delete the first one ,,, i do not want to do that!! will lose 6 hours of work doing so , with the other account screen saver did work ,, so what else can i do ??? this pc is a compaq with a amd 64 4000+ processor, 2 gig ram ,on board nvidia video 6150se ,with 32 bit 9.04 ubuntu operation system, yes i do have nvidia x server settings installed

I know you don't like it, but you would only need to back up config files which are in your /home/user and migrate them, afterwards delete the 'broken' account.
What else ...
#First 'not working' is a little less to debug.
#Make sure screensaver starts e.g. after 10 minutes and blank screen after e.g. 30 minutes, not the other way around.
#You could start the screensaver in a terminal to get some output with:
gnome-screensaver --debug --no-daemon
#Check logfiles, e.g. Xorg.0.log

 WELL ! WELL! I DID IT I FIXED IT ..... i did not like your ideal; so i went to synaptic package manager typed in screen saver in quick search it then showed 10 or 12 items ;; i picked the one`s i thought would help [ libxssl, xscreensaver-data,xscreensaver-gl } marked for reinstall ;;; installed ,then re-started pc screen saver is working with biof and puts the monitor to sleep ..... I`M HAPPY ;; i got the book ``how to do everything ubuntu i did not think it helped me, it read kinda simple but i think it help more than i thought .. thank you for your ideal !
