Hi,

You may be interested in reading the Sound TroubleShooting help page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting . It seems that your sound card is supposed to work properly "out of the box", but only for the two front speakers. According to, for example http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=401346 , getting the surround to work is a bit more tricky.

Its ubuntu, not ubuno. pronounce OO-BOON-TOO

Creative cards are a pain to get working in Linux. They can't even support windows well.

Welcome to Ubuntu, peter.

When your computer first boots, it takes its instructions from the BIOS where, most likely, the audio device built into the motherboard is specified.
When Ubuntu starts there is a conflict about which audio device to use - the inbuilt chip or the SoundBlaster card. This happens regardless of which device you tell Ubuntu to use.
The remedy is to enter your BIOS and disable "onboard sound" and remember to "Save before Exit".

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask peter for more information if necessary.
