Can't install Power DVXplayer in Ubuntu 8.10

Asked by stevieb

Hi folks, I can't install Power DVX ( a DVD player) in Ubuntu 8.10. I attempted to use the PlayinLinux one called Wine, but it would not install. The software said it was only for use in a Dell machine. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545, which used to run Vista- but intalling Ubuntu killed the Vista. Can anyone help please?

Cheers,
Steve

Why don't you use one of the Media Players shipped with Ubuntu?
Totem/smplayer/vlc/kaffeine/...
To play encrypted dvds you might need libdvdcss from medibuntu

Getting windows software to run in linux can be a pain, but if you really need it maybe you can find some information in the Application Database on winehq.org

Thanks Philip, with your kindness I actually managed to get the player to work. Cheers,
