DNS 9.04 Jaunty not working

I want to use open_DNS. In older versions of Ubuntu I have had to edit /etc/resolv.conf and make it read only to preserve it in dial up as shown

nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
nameserver 210.55.12.1
nameserver 210.55.12.2

but 9.04 refuses 208.67.222.222 and always uses 210.55.12.1

What is wrong?

Hi actionparsnip ,

No. I cannot ping 208.67.222.222

In 6.04, 7.04 and 8.04 I used that DNS all the time.

Well if you cannot contact the addresses then they will be ignored

You need to find out why you cannot connect to it and remedy that. If you want to make dns quicker you can use a local dns resolver on the system which will learn addresses as you use it.

According to syslog

210.55.12.1 is the DNS but if I ping that I get 0 packets received also and with 210.55.12.2

But I am using 9.04 here.

If I disable ICMP filtering in the firewall I can ping
 208.67.222.222
 208.67.220.220
 210.55.12.1
 210.55.12.2

but still cannot make 208.67.222.222 the DNS

I discovered /etc/ppp/resolv.conf
put
 208.67.222.222
 208.67.220.220

in it, made it read only and now open DNS is working.
