Facebook and Yahoo mail not rendering correctly in firefox 3.x

Asked by sammy7

HI,

Im trying to make the switch to Linux via Ubuntu. The tough part is getting my wife who shares my computer to accept it.

She is unhappy because she uses facebock, and New Yahoo mail though the web. For some strange reason, Firefox is not rendering Facebook and Yahoo mail in including other website correctly. It appears like a web formating or text issue. But many parts of the websites are without text in them.

Here are some screen shots of what Im seeing.

Its worth noting, that I recently copied MS fonts into my Ubuntu fonts directory, but I dont know if this is the cause of the problem or not.

Tnx for any help.

Please, check Firefox font preferences (Edit->Preferences->Content and click the Advanced button in tene fonts section)

Selecting "Western" charset in the first dropdown menu and Unicode (UTF-8) encoding in the last one works fine for me.

In case this doesn't work, try using a different font (but this one may produce "odd" webpages; keep default values as much as possible)

HI,

Though hanging to the suggested "wester" and "Unicode" didnt seem to solve the problem, I tried unticking the box with "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections" and that did the trick.

Pages are now populated with text. Many Thanks for pointing me in the right directions.
