Has anyone successfully run Civilisation III (or IV) on Linux?
It seems to be made for microsoft machines.
If so, how did you do it?
Thanks

Try to install Wine (from Synaptic). Maybe this helps.

It doesnt work with wine:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=16585

And there is no loki installer. Check the developers site to check if they have made a linux installer (ID software do this nicely)

Unfortunately game devs use directx lots so are geared towards microsoft operating systems. This means its harder to game on linux but some games run better under linux (like doom3)

It's spelled "windows"

Virtualbox has an experimental implementation of opengl but is not great. Games mainly run badly

Thanks guys,
As far as i can see, i'm kippered on this one.
The Civ III website gives no intimation of a linux version.
What does virtualising windows mean?

Virtualising windows means using an application such as Virtualbox or VMwareplayer/workstation/etc to run Windows as a program in Ubuntu (or vice versa, if you so desire... though why would you?) which then means you can install your games, etc in it. There are some disadvantages, such as possibly dodgy opengl in VirtualBox and the fact that you'll need a reasonably high-end PC to run virtualised versions of newer systems.

Take a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Virtualisation and, if you've got XP pro, maybe https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SeamlessVirtualization too if you want to see what I mean.

additionally, although you may run a 64bit system, not all 64bit CPU CPUs support virtual systems that are 64bit too and must run 32bit Guest systems. My socket AM2 Sempron 1.6Ghz 3000+ for example does not.

Can you help with this problem?
