accessing a server with Samba

Asked by beowulf

I'm a new Ubuntu user who is having problems connecting to shares on a linux server. I can see and access them in Konqueror but no where else (like open office). The only instructions I could find were very complex involving mounting a drive using a command line. Considering the rest of my experiences with Ubuntu I find it hard to believe I haven't missed something. Can anyone give me a hand getting samba to work correctly? I want to be able to use Open Office to access files on a Samba share.

If you use Gnome you need only to click in: Places -> Connect to Server -> and select Windows Share and fill the informations requested

That's how I got it to work, but I would really prefer to use Kubuntu. Does anyone know if there is a problem here?

If you can't access the server using the smb protocol you could mount the drive with smbmount

Can you help with this problem?
