Sierra Aircard 860 on Ubuntu 7.04

Asked by linux_2007

I have been trying to configure Sierra Aircard 860 on ubuntu 7.04 laptop IBM T43 thinkpad ..
I follwed the instructions as given by this link
http://www.sierrawireless.com/faq/ShowFAQ.aspx?ID=118

I followed all the steps except for the serial_cs.c [which I couldnt find]
the Aircard flashes green which I believe it is ready
when I run the wvdialConf create the below message is thrown
I installed the gnome-ppp but and I get the message /dev/modem not found - Not sure how to go ahead ?

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Erk, doesn't look like a particularly linux friendly device or indeed company:-

http://sos.blog-city.com/cingular_sierra_aircard_860__installation_in_windows_and_mac.htm

That said the following guide looks a bit more comprehensive:-

Alan thanks for the reply ...I tried all of the above ..though the syslog and dmesg displays
pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia0.0
0.0: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

But my the modem isnt detected through GPRS connect, Kppp and gnome-ppp....
Contacted Sierra too and they too had no idea as their support on linux is limited

linux_2007 I have the same issue with 860. I followed the instructions at
https://andrew.dingman.org/2006/12/14/sierra-wireless-aircard-860-under-debian-linux/

root@poobal-laptop:/home/poobal# pccardctl info
PRODID_1="Sierra Wireless"
PRODID_2="AC860"
PRODID_3="3G Network Adapter"
PRODID_4="R1"
MANFID=0192,0710
FUNCID=6

but dmesg |grep tty returns nothing.
