Using an iPod clickwheel as an input device

Asked by komputes

Does anyone know how to make the iPod click-wheel a device to change through songs and scroll up/down pages? Has anyone already attempted to do this?

The buttons can be used for media players.

I'm thinking the clickwheel can be use for multiple things:
-volume control
-scrolling up/down (like middle mouse wheel)
-jogging in video players/editors

I'm not too sure this is possible. You may find a driver but it will take some hunting.

You could try running xev in a terminal and seeing if it reacts when you press stuff. I don't use any apple products (I hate apple) so cannot test this myself.

If xev reacts, you can note the keycodes generated and map then to commands like the multimedia keys on a keyboard.

Can you help with this problem?
