installing ubuntu 9.04 over 8.0.4. version

Is the installation process automatic if I download Ubuntu 9.04 onto my present ubuntu 8.01 and is all the information from the latter automatically stored in ubuntu 9.04? I'm sure this is a pretty dumb question for most of you, but hey....wadyagonadoo?

The upgrade process from 8.04 is via 8.10 and then to 9.04 without loss of personal data. It is, however, always a good idea to back up all your existing data - perhaps a USB stick will suffice, or a CD.

When the next LTS release is available you will be able to upgrade to that from 8.04.
