problems w/ Asus M3N78 Pro motherboard + P9500

Asked by yarko

Asus M3N78 Pro, w/ AMD Phenom x4 9500
Ubuntu desktop 9.04

Asus bios 0403: --- no x on trying livecd (I tried this back rev because of a net post suggestion this worked);
Asus bios 0701: --- usb devices (e.g. mouse) fail rather soon (initial use + tens of seconds...) system monitor startup: also tanks after a while; this is what my mobo shipped w/.
Asus bios 1003: --- usb seems ok (disks, mice) -- networking not stable; works for a few minutes, then dead stack...

Fedora-11 preview (and update): runs stably (0701, 1003 bios's tested; live cd for hours, then install, and days of operation; Fedora-10 livecd did not produce video w/ 0701 bios).
Fedora-11 dmsg and boot logs from that are at:

Really would prefer to get Ubuntu running on this box.

Thanks,

I'd like you to try older versions of Ubuntu. Let's say 8.10 and/or 8.04 (the LTS one).

May be we will see a bit more than.

What grafics-card is this box using?

Well, I've finally gotten back on the network (after a bit of a hiatus)...

I grabbed 8.04 x64 live image, and that seems to be running, more stable (I didn't see 8.10 on the download options anymore, and didn't dig around for it - figured I'd try the thing at hand first).

I ran the hardware tests, and submitted them (only the graphic color bars failed.

I will look at installing it for a dual boot, and using it more thoroughly, more long term.

This is using nvida geforce 8300 chipset for graphics; latest nvidia driver seems to work fine under Fedora-11 (nice twinview); will eventually try that here too.

Thanks for the suggestion. Eventually, it would be nice to nail down the issues w/ the later Ubuntu release.

So - this "solved my problem" in a way... I now have an ubuntu I can test / use longer term.

I will eventually repeat tests w/ 8.10 (and even 9.10, although that's still alpha...)

Yarko
